Israel was God’s servant but she was deaf as a post and blind as a bat. How could she communicate the word she couldn’t hear? How could she witness to the salvation of God she couldn’t see? The truth about the Lord was not being communicated to the world. Instead of being the high-powered floodlight of the world they were called to be, they were more like a tea-light candle flickering its last breath of life. This passage challenges the people of God to open their eyes, open their hearts, and open their mouths and bear witness to the only true God who alone can save.
